The United States has accused Russia of using the captured nuclear reactor in Ukraine as a nuclear shield for carrying out ruthless and blatant attacks on Ukrainian forces.

Addressing the media in New York, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Russian forces are firing on Ukrainian troops from around the plant, whereas, Ukrainians cannot fire back due to fear of nuclear accident.

He said the IAEA should be given access to the plant to ensure its safety.
