Chairman Prime Minister’s Youth Programme Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan has said that four-day University Sports Olympiad will commence here in Islamabad from tomorrow (Wednesday).
Addressing a news conference here in Islamabad on Tuesday, he said more than three thousand sportsmen and athletes from across the country will participate in this mega event. He said the objective of this event is to actively engage the youth in sports activities.
Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan said it will also help identifying the talented individuals and sportsmen, who have the potential to represent Pakistan at national and international platforms, bringing an honour and laurel to the country.
He said all the stakeholders, foreign diplomats residing in Islamabad, and representatives of the development partners will grace the University Olympiad.
He said more than fifty athletes and players of Tennis, while Squash players hailing from seven countries are currently in Pakistan which is a big achievement.
He said the Bangladesh government and their sport board has also decided to restore ties at university level that were severed during riots in Bangladesh, which is also a success of the incumbent government in Pakistan.
Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan said the present government under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is specially focusing on promotion of sport activities in the country to highlight the talent of our youth.
He said the government under the Prime Minister Youth Programme is making hectic efforts to boost the potential of our youth in different fields including sports.
Chairman Prime Minister’s Youth Programme lauded the support extended by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Higher Education Commission (HEC), and Islamabad Administration for organizing the University Olympiad.
