The United Nations (UN) has approved a resolution renewing the global commitment to the principle of self-determination for the people still subjected to colonial, foreign and alien occupation.

The resolution, co-sponsored by sixty-five countries, submitted by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Munir Akram was adopted without a vote in the General Assembly, the state-run Radio Pakistan reported on Tuesday.

The resolution, which Pakistan has been sponsoring since 1981, serves to focus world’s attention on peoples still struggling for their inalienable right to self-determination, including those in Palestine and Kashmir.

The resolution called on the States responsible to cease immediately their military intervention and occupation of foreign countries and territories.
