A new survey revealed today that two-thirds of Pakistanis view overseas migrants as more wealth-oriented than those who stay in the country.

According to a Gallup and Gilani Pakistan poll, 67% of respondents believe those who move abroad are more focused on accumulating riches than those who remain in the country. Only 26% disagreed with this assessment.

The nationwide study questioned a representative sample of Pakistani adults about their perceptions of emigrants. Specifically, they were asked about the veracity of the statement: ‘People who move abroad.love wealth.’ A substantial 40% deemed the statement ‘completely true,’ while an additional 27% considered it ‘somewhat true.’ In contrast, just over a quarter (26%) rejected the notion outright. The remaining 7% were uncertain or declined to answer.

These findings suggest a prevalent and entrenched view within Pakistani society regarding the motivations of those who choose to live overseas. This widespread perception could impact how these individuals are perceived upon their return and may influence national dialogues surrounding emigration and national identity. The study was conducted by the Gilani Research Foundation.
