Two-Thirds of Digital Content Creators Fail to Fact-Check, UNESCO Survey Reveals.


Paris: Two-thirds of digital content creators are not verifying the accuracy of their material, leaving both themselves and their followers susceptible to misinformation, a recent UNESCO survey has found.

According to Radio Pakistan, UNESCO has highlighted the pressing need for social media influencers to receive immediate assistance in fact-checking their content prior to dissemination. This measure is crucial to curtail the proliferation of misinformation on digital platforms.

In an official statement, UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay emphasized the significant role social media influencers play as a primary news source for audiences worldwide. However, the survey reveals a concerning trend, with 62 percent of these influencers lacking fundamental fact-checking practices.

The findings underscore the urgency for educational initiatives and resources targeted at improving the accuracy and reliability of information being shared across social media channels. As digital platforms continue to grow as
major news outlets, fostering a culture of verification and responsibility among content creators is increasingly vital.
