TEP Panel alleges rigging in PEC election, decides to go for legal fight

TEP Panel Core Committee’s Executive Members and elected candiadtes held a meeting in Lahore under the chair of Engr Jawed Salim Qureshi pertaining, in which they termed Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) 2024 elections as rigged and decided to go for all legal fights at appropriate levels.

According to a statement today, TEP elected members however decided to take oath as per schedule under protest with black ribbons. Members will not become part of any committee till the Fact Finding committee is formed to conclude in seven days on the complaint raised by TEP chairman.

The committee shall consist of newly elected SVC and VC of all provinces. Registrar will work as secretary of the committee, it was decided in the meeting.

Earlier, Engr Jawed Salim Qureshi of TEP Panel filed a complaint with PEC, blaming that polling stations were changed across Pakistan to reduce the voting from the cluster cities of TEP Panel. He further said that four hours delay in the election process happened due to nonworking of the biometric system. He demanded recounting of chairman voters before the formal announcement of the election results.

Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) yesterday announced its 2024 election official results, in which Engr Waseem Nazir secured the PEC Chairman slot while Engr Dr Sarosh Hashmat Lodi, Vice Chancellor of NED University of Engineering and Technology Karachi, who belongs to TEP Panel, emerged victorious as Senior Vice Chairman.

According to the official election results, Engr Dr Suhail Aftab Qureshi was elected as Vice Chairman Punjab (TEP Panel), Engr Mukhtiar Ali Shaikh as Vice Chairman Sindh, Engr Dr Qaisar Ali as Vice Chairman Kyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Engr Mujeeb Ur Rehman Marri (TEP Panel) as Vice Chairman Balochistan. The PEC also elected 40 Governing Body members amid reports of disruption in online voting system as four hours delay in the election was reported.
