Four dead, scores injured in Daesh attack on Kabul military hospital

Kabul (IINA) � Gunmen dressed as doctors stormed Afghanistan’s largest military hospital close to the US embassy in Kabul’s diplomatic district on Wednesday, killing at least four people and wounding more than 60 others in the latest in a wave of terrorist attacks across the country, news agencies reported.

Daesh (the so called ISIS or ISIL) terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the attack on the Sardar Daud Khan hospital, Afghan TOLO News reported. A security official told Reuters that the attack began when a suicide bomber blew himself up at the rear of the 400-bed hospital when between three to five gunmen toting automatic weapons and hand grenades entered the complex.

The gunmen, dressed as medical personnel, had taken position on the hospital’s upper floors and engaged special forces that rushed to the scene.

Security forces blocked off the area around the hospital, near a busy traffic intersection. As fighting went on, a second explosion was heard from inside. Our forces are there and there is heavy fighting, said Defense Ministry spokesman Dawlat Waziri, adding that one attacker was killed and another two were holding out, while one soldier was killed and three others wounded.

Qatar’s emir, Azerbaijan president discuss ways to boost bilateral ties

Doha (IINA) � Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani held here on Monday a round of official talks with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.

Both sides reviewed bilateral relations between the two countries and the means of enhancing them in all fields. They also discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest, particularly the latest development in the region.

After the talks, the emir of Qatar and president of Azerbaijan witnessed the signing of a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between the two countries.

OIC assistant chief meets Russian first deputy grand mufti

Jeddah (IINA) � Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ambassador Abdullah Abdurrahman Alim met here on Monday with Russian First Deputy Grand Mufti Sheikh Roshan Abbasov and his accompanying delegation, comprising Russia’s Permanent Representative to the OIC Ambassador Oleg Ozerov and other members.

The two parties reviewed the outstanding OIC-Russian Federation relations and exchanged views on issues of common interest.

Sheikh Abbasov expressed his great appreciation for the efforts undertaken by the OIC to address the challenges facing the Muslim world, pointing out that Russian Muslims feel proud to be part of the OIC family.

For his part, Ambassador Alim affirmed the OIC’s continued support for Russian Muslims, hailing their peaceful coexistence with fellow-citizens from other religions. He also commended the valuable role played by the Central Religious Administration of Russian Muslims in fostering and enriching the Muslim culture in Russia.

UAE envoy to Afghanistan dies of wounds sustained in Kandahar blast

Abu Dhabi (IINA) � The United Arab Emirates has announced the martyrdom of Juma Al Kaabi, UAE ambassador to Afghanistan, who died of injuries he sustained in Kandahar’s terrorist attack last month, in which five other UAE citizens died.

A statement carried by Emirates News Agency WAM read: “It is with great sadness and sorrow that we mourn the martyr of the nation, Juma Mohammed Abdullah Al Kaabi, who lost his soul for the sake of humanity.”

The blast, which struck the provincial governor’s office during a visit by the UAE delegation who was attending the opening of an orphanage, killed at least 11 people, including five Emirati aid workers, and wounded 17.

Following the incident in January, Al Kaabi was transferred by military plane to Abu Dhabi for treatment.

The UAE has developed and implemented a series of development projects in a number of Arab countries, as well as in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
