Commissioner Sukkur Division, Fayaz Hussain Abbasi, has imposed a complete ban on paddy crop cultivation across the Sukkur Division for the Kharif 2025 season.
This decision, enforced under Section 144(6) of the Criminal Procedure Code, is a response to pressing environmental and socio-economic issues.
This step was taken through a notification issued by the Commissioner’s office, following recommendations from key regional officials, including the Deputy Commissioner of Khairpur and the Director of Nara Canal. They underscored the critical need to address severe waterlogging, soil salinity, and agricultural land degradation caused by paddy (rice) cultivation.
To enforce the ban, Revenue Officers, Assistant Commissioners, and other officials are empowered to file complaints under Section 188 CrPC against violators. The order aims to protect the region’s environmental and agricultural health.
