Preparations are underway for region-wide demonstrations and a complete strike in Azad Kashmir on August 5, the sixth anniversary of India’s revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status. Rallies and processions are included in several urban centers, with participants waving Kashmiri flags. Political leaders and members of the Legislative Assembly are expected to lead these gatherings.
These protests aim to condemn India’s 2019 actions, terming it a “global terrorist” and a “failed state.”
Prime Minister Anwar ul Haq Chaudhry will address a large gathering in Muzaffarabad. He will also present a memorandum at the local UN Mission office.
On August 5, 2019, India revoked Article 370, ending the autonomous status of Jammu and Kashmir.
