Strangers’ overnight stay in Islamabad mosques, seminaries banned

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad police’s Anti-Extremism Unit has announced that they have contacted all seminaries in the city regarding not allowing strangers to reside in mosques and seminaries overnight.

They emphasized that there is no permission for people to stay in mosques, and strangers will not be allowed to spend the night in mosques and madressahs (Islamic religious schools). Additionally, the capital police have issued directives stating that permission from authorized bodies is necessary to open an educational institution or madressah.

This announcement comes as Pakistan has experienced an increase in terrorism-related incidents in recent months. The government has been cracking down on illegally residing foreigners, including Afghan immigrants, in response to rising concerns about terror attacks and drug smuggling.

The caretaker federal government has set a deadline of November 1 for illegal immigrants to leave the country or face deportation. Overall, these measures reflect the Pakistani government’s efforts to address security concerns and maintain control over religious institutions and the presence of foreigners in the country, particularly in light of the recent increase in terrorist incidents.
