The Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA) has announced a protest movement to address the issues faced by college teachers. The sit-ins will be held on April 15 in Sukkur, April 17 in Hyderabad, and April 22 in Karachi.

In a joint statement issued by SPLA’s central president, Munawar Abbas, and secretary general, Ghulam Mustafa Kaka, along with other leaders, stated that college teachers in Sindh are being consistently ignored, leading to their disappointment with the Sindh government. They pointed out that while teachers from primary to university levels have been upgraded, college teachers have not been given any importance.

The leaders of SPLA have included 14 demands in the charter of the protest movement. These demands include granting college teachers in Sindh a five-tier formula similar to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, providing promotion opportunities, and issuing health cards for college education staff.

SPLA leaders said that despite several written requests to the Sindh Minister of Education, no action has been taken, forcing them to take to the streets. They further stated that steps should also be taken regarding the promotion, training, and higher education opportunities for college teachers.

Other demands in the protest movement include the reconstruction of colleges, provision of modern digital classrooms, preparation of a permanent transfer and posting policy, and strengthening laws to prevent attacks on colleges.

SPLA has demanded that the Sindh government immediately resolve the issues of college teachers so that they can cooperate better with the Ministry of Education. The purpose of the protest movement is to secure the rights of college teachers and improve the educational system.
