LAHORE: Senator Ishaq Dar stated on Sunday that if President Dr Arif Alvi does not convene a session on Feb 29, the National Assembly speaker can constitutionally convene a session himself.
In a statement, Dar highlighted that the constitution clearly details that if a session is not convened following the elections in the country, the speaker has the authority to convene a session on the 21st day.
The former finance minister pointed out that according to the deadline of 21 days in the constitution, Feb 29 becomes the last date. He added, “The same principle will also apply in the provinces if the governor does not convene a session.”
Dar further said that it cannot be discussed how the economy would improve on the floor of the House under such circumstances.
