The Sindh government has resolved to intensify its campaign against the unlawful extraction of minerals by establishing a dedicated task force, a decision announced following a high-level meeting of the Mines and Minerals Development Department.
According to an official report today, the resolution was passed during a significant assembly chaired by Syed Sardar Ali Shah, Sindh’s Minister for Education and Mines and Minerals Development. The meeting, attended by department Secretary Raja Shah Zaman Khuhro and Director General Mahesh Lal Dodani, involved a detailed review of illicit mining operations in key districts including Karachi’s Malir, Jamshoro, Nagarparkar, and Thatta.
Minister Shah issued a stern directive for immediate and strict measures to eradicate the practice throughout the province. He asserted that unauthorised mining would not be tolerated and perpetrators would face the full extent of legal consequences.
The newly sanctioned task force is mandated to implement effective strategies to halt these illegal activities across various districts. The minister instructed that all available resources be utilised to ensure its operational success and emphasised the need for close coordination between the Mines and Minerals Department, the police, and other relevant institutions for indiscriminate enforcement.
Furthermore, the minister highlighted the necessity of formulating a comprehensive strategy to safeguard the province”s mineral wealth, ensuring all extraction activities adhere strictly to the legal framework. Directives were also issued to address the environmental degradation resulting from illegal mining and to mitigate potential threats to the natural ecosystem.
