Sharjeel says bandits should surrender, talks with them likely

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has said that the bandits should surrender, adding that those not involved in serious crimes would be given an opportunity to surrender, after which the government might engage in talks with them.

Memon said that captured bandits should also repent, as they would also be given an opportunity. A joint operation by police and rangers is currently underway in the Katcha area. In a meeting held in Sukkur, chaired by President Asif Ali Zardari, all relevant agencies, including Rangers and police, briefed the President on their performance.

Talking to the media at the media corner of the Sindh Assembly, Memon stated that in the meeting presided over by President Asif Ali Zardari, it was also decided that reconciliation committees should be formed to address tribal disputes, and that those disputes should be resolved.

He said that innocent lives had been lost in tribal disputes, so tribal chiefs would be mobilized to resolve those disputes and guide people on the right path. “If drug dealers also repent, the government will also offer them concessions. The Sindh government’s policy against drugs is based on zero tolerance.”

Memon stated that the message from President Zardari’s meeting is clear: criminals should surrender and engage in dialogue with the government. The government will deal with them according to the law. The first meeting with Asif Ali Zardari was also significant regarding drugs and law and order, and the meeting held in Sukkur was particularly important. He said that street crime in Karachi was also discussed in the meeting, and the data on street crimes from January and May was compared, revealing that the situation had significantly improved.

Memon said that the Sindh government had already issued orders for the provision of modern weapons for the Sindh police, and the process of receiving those weapons had started. “The police are being equipped with modern arms, and police personnel are being given privileges. This was a part of President Asif Ali Zardari’s long-standing vision, and due to his vision, the morale of the police force is increasing,” he noted.

In response to a question, he said that the federal government would propose an operation against terrorists. He said: “The PPP is not part of the federal government, but it does not want chaos and anarchy in the country.” Memon said that the heatwave had affected the province, and the government had set up cooling centers.”
