Severe Punishments Should Be Given to Financial Institutions Facilitating Terrorism: Bilawal

Addressing an international conference on terrorism financing, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari demanded strict penalties against financial institutions facilitating terrorism-related transactions. He argued that banks knowingly processing such transactions should face consequences similar to those involved in money laundering for drug cartels.

Bhutto Zardari stressed the need for a shift in the Financial Action Task Force’s (FATF) approach. He suggested the organization move beyond punitive measures like greylisting and focus on becoming an active hub for intelligence sharing.

The Pakistani representative said that military force alone is insufficient to combat terrorism. He advocated for a “smart power” strategy, combining military and diplomatic measures.

Bhutto Zardari concluded his address by saying that this comprehensive approach is essential to completely eradicate extremism and prevent its resurgence.
