Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri, Chairperson of the Senate Functional Committee on Human Rights, today visited injured miners in a Harnai hospital following a deadly gas explosion at the Harnai coal mines.

The blast claimed several lives and left numerous workers critically wounded. Senator Zehri met with the injured and offered condolences to the grieving families. She received updates from hospital personnel regarding the victims’ medical status and expressed apprehension over the frequent occurrence of such catastrophes in the mining industry.

The senator stressed that worker safety should be a top national concern. She called for a thorough and impartial inquiry into the explosion to ascertain the cause and ensure accountability. She also demanded stricter enforcement of safety rules and improved protocols to avert similar incidents.

Senator Zehri emphasized that workers’ lives are invaluable and preventative steps must be prioritized. She concluded her visit by offering prayers for the injured miners’ recovery and for the deceased.
