The Senate on Thursday passed a resolution congratulating the government for successfully holding the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of the Government meeting in Islamabad.

The resolution was moved by Senator Sherry Rehman. The resolution expressed the confidence that the progress made at this event will go a long way in Pakistan’s growing geo-economic profile and role in enhanced regional connectivity, investment, infrastructure, climate and security goals.

The Senate also passed the Deposit Protection Corporation Amendment Bill, 2024. It was moved by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb. In his remarks, the Finance Minister said the Bill is aimed at further strengthening the financial system.

The Establishment of Special Court (Overseas Pakistanis Property) Bill was also passed by the House. It was moved by Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, Chaudhry Salik Hussain.

Speaking on the occasion, Chaudhry Salik Hussain said the legislation is aimed at addressing the property related issues of overseas Pakistanis. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb laid before the House the National Forensics Agency Bill, 2024.

The chair referred the Bill to the Standing Committee concerned. The House has now been adjourned to meet tomorrow (Friday) at 2:00 pm.
