A Levies official providing security to an anti-polio team was martyred on Tuesday after unidentified assailants opened fire on them in the Matta area of Swat, an incident that has drawn strong condemnation from the federal government. The slain officer was identified as Abdul Kabeer.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi denounced the violent assault, expressing profound sorrow over the loss of life. In a statement, he paid tribute to the fallen officer, noting that Abdul Kabir attained the “highest honor of martyrdom” while performing his duty.

The interior minister extended his heartfelt condolences and deep sympathy to the bereaved family of the slain personnel. “The attackers who opened fire on a team working for the protection of children’s future deserve no leniency,” Naqvi asserted.

He reiterated the government’s unwavering support for polio workers and the security forces assigned to protect them, emphasizing that the state stands firmly with those on the front lines of the crucial public health initiative.
