SECP Leads COMCEC Sustainability Task Force Webinar on ISSB Reporting Standards

The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) organized and moderated a webinar for the COMCEC Capital Market Regulators (CMR) Forum Sustainability Task Force, focused on the Implementation of ISSB Reporting Standards.

Established under the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Task Force provides a platform for capital market regulators of member states to collaborate on sustainable finance, ESG reporting, and the adoption of international sustainability standards.

The session drew strong participation from member jurisdictions and professional bodies, underscoring the growing regional commitment to advancing sustainability reporting. It featured perspectives from Pakistan, Trkiye, and Malaysia, which focused on regulatory frameworks, capacity-building, and the challenges of adopting ISSB standards.

The task force, operating under the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), offers a collaborative space for capital market overseers from member countries to work together on sustainable finance, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting, and the integration of global sustainability benchmarks.

Participants from Pakistan, Trkiye, and Malaysia offered insights into their regulatory structures, capacity development programs, and the obstacles encountered in adopting ISSB standards.

The SECP presented Pakistan”s regulatory progress and its phased strategy for ISSB implementation, emphasizing initiatives to bolster market capabilities and involve stakeholders. These actions indicate Pakistan”s dedication to, and proactive stance on, promoting sustainability and ESG best practices, often exceeding regional counterparts in certain domains. Contributions from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP), Trkiye’s Public Oversight, Accounting and Auditing Standards Authority, and the Securities Commission Malaysia further enhanced the conversation with practical knowledge and global perspectives.

The dialogue underscored the significance of capacity development, joint efforts, and phased implementation approaches to guarantee successful ISSB integration. The SECP reiterated its dedication to nurturing regional partnerships and bolstering sustainability reporting procedures in accordance with international norms.
