Scholars emphasize protection of children’s rights

ISLAMABAD: At a consultative meeting, the religious scholars have emphasized the protection of children’s rights, fostering a shared vision for a brighter future for the nation’s children.

The consultative meeting of “Working Group of Religious Scholars on Child Rights” was convened by the National Commission on the Rights of Child (NCRC).

The meeting commenced with a dialogue on the critical intersection of religious teachings and child rights. The scholars emphasized the protection of children’s rights, fostering a shared vision for a brighter future for the nation’s children.

According to a statement issued here on Wednesday, the religious scholars provided insights on how religious education can play an influential role in promoting child rights.

They discussed strategies to disseminate awareness and engage in community-based initiatives that advocate for the rights and well-being of children.

The religious scholars recommended to reform school curricula to incorporate child rights education, emphasizing the importance of children’s rights from an early age; promoting awareness campaigns to educate parents, children, and communities about child rights and protection; enhance the capacity of teachers to effectively convey the message of child rights and protection.

They also recommended to utilize mosques and the extensive network of madrassahs to disseminate child protection messages and raise awareness about the importance of child rights.

The inaugural meeting witnessed discussions on collaborative efforts between the NCRC and religious scholars and they pledged their support for the NCRC’s mission to protect children’s rights, committing to raise awareness, educate communities, and provide guidance on religious teachings that align with the child rights.
