SCA demands justified distribution of irrigation water

LARKANA: Sindh Chamber of Agriculture (SCA), Larkana Division, has expressed serious reservations over shortage and unjustified distribution of water in Larkana division.

In a meeting held here on Thursday presided over by its president, Syed Sirajul Oliya Rashdi, SCA demanded of the provincial Irrigation Department through a resolution passed unanimously to remove water shortage and ensure proper share to the farmers so that they could be able to plant rice seedlings on time on a priority basis

They further demanded of the federal and Sindh governments to resolve issues faced by the growers and avoid political confrontation because, they added, the rice crop is expected to suffer very badly if proper water supply is not ensured. They said peasants are already facing economic devastation and if paddy seedlings are not sown timely then they will be ruined.

They said water channels of Warah Canal have become dry and acute irrigation water shortage is faced in Saifullah Magsi Canal, Qubo Distri, Shahbaig Dahri, Imdad Patuja and other distributaries of Kambar-Shahdadkot district.

They said it was the right of tail end users to get timely water but they were suffering worst at the hands of those involved in water theft which should be stopped quickly. Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, Asad Shah, Hussain Bux, Muhammad Ayaz, Haji Shoukat Chandio, Wajid Chandio and others participated in the meeting.

They further demanded that fertilizer prices must also be controlled and agricultural machinery and equipment be made free of all kinds of taxes so that the agriculture sector could be able to flourish and fulfill demands of the country.
