SC refers Sindh election matter to EC

ISLAMABAD:The Supreme Court on Tuesday referred back to the Election Commission the petitions against the delimitations of provincial constituencies PS 7, 8, and 9 Shikarpur.

The case was heard by a two-member Supreme Court bench headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial. These petitions were filed in the Supreme Court in 2018.

During the hearing, the CJP said the Election Commission of Pakistan should conduct delimitations of constituencies in a transparent manner.

He said the delimitations of constituencies was a matter of public interest and it had been brought up in the Supreme Court several times.

To a court query that when the general elections were being held, the Director General (Law) Muhammad Arshad said ‘no date for the elections has been decided yet. The CJP then noted that the Election Commission should resolve all issues before the polls.

“This matter is more sensitive in Sindh. Grievances often come forth that delimitations in the province were not correct,” the CJP noted and referred back the petitions to the electoral body.
