Rally Staged in Naseerabad Against Controversial Canals

A protest rally was organized in Naseerabad at the call of the Indus River Protection Advisory Committee on Monday, demonstrating against the excavation of controversial canals and the police brutality and arrests of protesting lawyers.

The rally started from Noonari neighborhood, Thal Factory, and proceeded to Arthur Mori, led by leaders such as Faqeer Ali Gul Kandhro, Inayat Tanyo, Sarai Niaz Kalhoro, Imdad Chandio, Zawar Kazim Raza Joyo, Comrade Riaz Phulpoto, Sufi Ghaffar Channa, and others. A large number of leaders from various city organizations, activists, and members of civil society participated in the rally.

Participants chanted slogans against the Sindh police and the federal government. Speaking to the media, the leaders stated that the six new canals on the Indus River are unacceptable under any circumstances. They praised the conscious people of Sindh for their ongoing historic sit-ins on various roads.

The leaders condemned the violence by Sindh police against lawyers and declared that all parties in Sindh stand with the lawyers. They expressed their determination to thwart every attempt to stop the protests against the controversial canals.

The leaders stated that the protests would continue until a notification is issued completely rejecting the six new canals and corporate farming.
