Rain in Lahore spurs power woes, disrupts social life

LAHORE: Rain in Lahore has affected social life and caused tripping of 100 Lesco feeders over the past 24 hours, authorities said Tuesday. However, the temperature in the city has significantly decreased, proving some relief to the people from warm weather.

According to rainfall data, Jail Road recorded 8.5 millimeters of rain, while Gulberg saw 10 millimeters and Lakshmi Chowk experienced 14 millimeters. Other areas reported precipitation as well, with Upper Mall receiving 5 millimeters, Mughalpura 3.5 millimeters, and Tajpura 3 millimeters.

Further precipitation measurements include Nishtar Town with 1 millimeter, Pani Wala Talab with 12 millimeters, Farukh Abad with 4 millimeters, Gulshan Ravi with 20 millimeters, Iqbal Town with 6 millimeters, Samanabad with 8 millimeters, and Johar Town with 1 millimeter of rainfall.

However, the rain has severely impacted Lahore’s power transmission system, resulting in over 100 Lesco feeders tripping. This led to widespread electricity outages across various areas due to both tripped feeders and technical issues.

The power disruptions have caused significant inconvenience for residents in several neighborhoods including Manawan, Batapur, Sabzazar, Gulshan Ravi, Samanabad, Pir Nasir, Mughalpura, Shalimar, Mustafa Abad, Baghbanpura, Ferozpur Road, Islampura, Qila Gujjar Singh, and Walton Road.
