Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Sindh, Kashif Saeed Sheikh, has labeled PPP’s protest call over the canal issues as equivalent to deceiving the public. He demanded that if PPP is truly serious about this issue, it should withdraw support from the federal government and announce the resignation of President Zardari and the governors of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Kashif Saeed Sheikh stated that the historic protest by Sindh’s political, social, religious, nationalist, and lawyer communities, including students, compelled PPP to protest. However, instead of dissociating from the federal government over the canal issue, the public is being fooled.
He condemned the 188% increase in the salaries of federal ministers and advisors. He remarked that while using economic deterioration as an excuse to deny raises for the public and government employees, increasing the elite salaries is akin to rubbing salt in the wounds of people suffering from inflation, unemployment, and insecurity.
Kashif Saeed Sheikh advised the government to reduce the number of ministers and advisors instead of laying off lower employees and to adopt simplicity and frugality policies. He further suggested that in the next budget, the salaries of lower government employees should be increased, and the tax burden should be reduced to provide some relief to the common man.
Additionally, the leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami Sindh expressed condolences over the death of senior journalist and playwright Manik Kangrani and prayed for his forgiveness.
