Punjab schools to reopen from Jan 10 amid severe cold

LAHORE: Punjab govt will reopen schools from Jan 10 amid severe cold weather and dense that has paralysed social and business life across the province, according to a report on Tuesday.

In message on social platform X, formerly known as Twitter, the Punjab Chief Minister stated: “Due to the ongoing winter wave, schools will resume on 10th Jan, 2024. From 10th to 22nd Jan, schools will start at 9:30 am. It is highly advisable to wear jackets and warm clothes.”

It may be noted that the annual winter vacation in Punjab schools started on December 18, 2023 and ended on January 1, 2024. Later, due to severe cold, the vacation were extended till January 9.

However, the the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has extended the winter holidays for government and private primary schools until January 13 due to severe cold and fog.

Severe cold wave amid dense fog continues over the plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Upper Sindh and is likely to continue during this week. PMD has advised citizens to be cautious. Day temperatures are likely to remain below normal in most parts of Punjab due to dense fog.
