LAHORE: Punjab government has decided to observe Dengue Week from August 22 to August 27 in schools across the province in order to create awareness among the people, especially the new generation about the lethality and prevention of disease.

According to a report, various activities would be held throughout the week including seminars, cleaning, displaying of banners and posters, etc. Awareness-walk would also be organized at the districts, tehsils, and towns level in which teachers and children along with their parents take part to promote awareness of dengue prevention, control, and intervention methods.

It is pertinent that Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection that is common in warm, tropical climates and often peaks during rainy seasons. Pakistan is facing its outbreak for the last at least 15 years while rising population densities and climate change have made Punjab one of the epicentres of the country’s largest dengue fever outbreak.
