Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sindh President and former Leader of the Opposition in the Sindh Assembly, Haleem Adil Sheikh, said on Friday showed concern over the deteriorating state of law and order situation in the country and the lack of respect for the constitution and the rule of law.
Talking to media outside the Anti-Terrorism Court in Central Jail Karachi, he emphasized that the current system could not function if it continued to operate on the principle of “might is right” and stated that the nation cannot progress unless the will of the people was respected.
Mr Sheikh pointed out that during the general elections, the public votes were allegedly stolen, leading to the rule of corrupt politicians who had destroyed the country’s economy.
He lamented the ongoing legal challenges faced by PTI members, particularly the cases from 2021, which he claimed were fabricated during a rigged bye-election of PS-88 Malir. Despite three years of court appearances, justice remained elusive, he added.
Sheikh condemned the recent killing of 12 police constables by bandits in the Kacha area of Rahim Yar Khan, terming it a tragic incident. He extended his condolences to the families of the martyred police constables and questioned why these officers had to suffer when effective action against the bandits could have been taken earlier.
The PTI Sindh chief called on the Chief Minister and the Inspector General of Punjab to leave their social media activities and address the lawlessness in the kacha region.
Sheikh criticized the police for focusing on arresting PTI workers instead of targeting the bandits, who continue to operate freely in Sindh and Punjab.
