PTI rejects Senate chairman’s proposal over dialogue on elections

ISLAMABAD:Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday rejected the proposal of Senate Chairman Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani suggesting the formation of a 10-member special parliamentary committee to hold dialogue on elections. Talking to media persons outside the Supreme Court on Thursday, PTI Vice-Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that the party has rejected the Chairman Senate’s committee as ‘this matter is not about Senate, rather it is about the political consensus.

He said the PTI has already formed its three-member committee after consultations with the party chief Imran Khan. He said the panel comprises Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Chaudhry Fawad Hussain and Barrister Ali Zafar. The coalition government had proposed formation of a 10-member parliamentary committee with equal representation from both sides for talks on holding elections across the country on the same date. Chairman Senate had asked to nominate members from both the treasury and opposition benches to constitute the Special Committee for holding Political Dialogue.

He had said that ten members Special Committee will be under the joint convenorship of the Leader of the House in the Senate and Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, and will comprise of four members each from the Treasury and Opposition Benches. The Chairman Senate had asked both the Leader of the House and the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate to provide names of four members belonging to Treasury and Opposition Benches for inclusion in the Special Committee within two days.
