PTI Ladies Wing General Secretary demand water for Shahdadkot growers

LARKANA: Mud is flying in the irrigation drains which come out of Khirthar and Saifullah Magsi Canals, which include Tanwari Shakh, Suharo Shakh, Mastoi Shakh, Lundi Shakh, Patoja Shakh, Dhori Shakh, Imdad Minor, Gandakho Shakh, Noorpur Shakh and others as there is acute irrigation water scarcity in Kambar-Shahdadkot district due to which poor landlords and growers are facing hardships.

This was stated by Naheed Khuhawar, General Secretary, Ladies Wing, PTI, Sukkur Region, while addressing newsmen at a local press club here Sunday along with Roshan Brohi, landlords and growers of Shahdadkot.

She said due to water shortage paddy seedlings are burning and if the water is not released then tail enders’ saplings will also burn. She said farmers have spent millions of rupees on preparing and ploughing their lands and procuring seeds after obtaining loans on the sole hope that they will be able to repay the loan amount after rice crop harvesting which will also enable them to feed their family members. She accused Sindh government of committing economic murder of poor tillers by denying water to them.

Naheed alleged that influential PPP members sitting in the Sindh Assembly and named Nadir Magsi, Shahnawaz Karozai, other Sardars and landlords are stealing water by installing illegal pipes against which we made several complaints to district administration, irrigation department officials, Superintending Engineer and Executive Engineer but nobody is listening to them which is unjust and highhandedness, she added.

She said there was water shortage in 2018 but then water was given during 2019 and 2020 but handmade scarcity has been made during 2021 despite the fact that the Centre has given water for Sindh, she claimed, then why water is being denied to the landlords and growers of Shahdadkot, she questioned. She said PPP is giving water to its own people but others are facing acute shortages which will not be tolerated, she said.

Naheed Khuhawar and others demanded release of water into the frains without loss of further time or else, they warned, a massive sit-in will be held on Shahdadkot-Larkana Road today (Monday) which will be participated by a large number of people of the district.
