Protests held in Quetta against gas shortages

Protests held in different parts of Quetta on Friday, as residents of Abdullah Town and Takhtani Bypass took to the streets to against ongoing gas load shedding and low gas pressure in their areas.

In Abdullah Town, a large group of residents, including women and children, staged a peaceful sit-in outside the office of Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) on Samungli Road.

The protesters, who have been grappling with poor gas supply, gathered to demand immediate action to address the issue. The sit-in continued for two hours, with the protesters dispersing peacefully after SSGCL authorities assured them that the matter would be looked into.

Meanwhile, residents of Takhtani Bypass blocked the Eastern Bypass highway, halting all vehicular traffic in protest against the persistent gas load shedding in their area.

The blockade, led by the Pushtunkhwa Milli Awami Party’s Takhtani Bypass unit, resulted in long queues of vehicles on both sides of the highway. Protesters claimed that they had been facing low gas pressure for the past two months and that despite repeated complaints to the relevant authorities, no action had been taken. After a two-hour blockade, the protesters ended their demonstration peacefully, although the issue remains unresolved.

Both protests reflect growing frustration among residents of Quetta over the continuing gas crisis, with locals demanding swift action to alleviate their suffering.
