Protesters blocked the Quetta-Karachi highway at Munguchar in Kalat district on Sunday, demanding the release of the detained members of the SBK Shortlisted Committee.
According to a PPI report, shortlisted candidates of Sardar Bahadur Khan Women’s University staged the protest against the detention of the committee’s president and other members. The demonstrators obstructed traffic near Munguchar, calling for immediate action.
Speaking to the media, protesters stated that leaders of the SBK Shortlisted Committee had planned to hold a press conference at the Quetta Press Club a day earlier. However, police raided the venue and detained the committee’s President, Muhammad Noor Mengal, General Secretary Abdul Rehman Mengal, Muhammad Akram, Mula Dad, and 40 other members.
The protesters warned that the highway would remain blocked until their demands were met and the detained individuals were released. The Quetta-Karachi highway was still closed at the time of filing this report.
