Prime Minister’s Telephone Call with Azerbaijani President, Invitation to Visit Pakistan

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, in a telephone conversation with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, hailed the groundbreaking peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Sharif congratulated Aliyev and the Azerbaijani people on this landmark agreement resulting from the peaceful resolution of the three-decade-old conflict, mediated by former US President Donald Trump.

Sharif commended Aliyev’s leadership in ending the long-standing dispute and ushering in an era of prosperity in the Caucasus region. He acknowledged Trump’s pivotal role in brokering the historic agreement, highlighting his recent role in resolving the Pakistan-India conflict and lauded his efforts for global peace.

Aliyev thanked Pakistan for its continued support to Azerbaijan on the Karabakh issue. Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s solidarity with Azerbaijan and expressed satisfaction that stability had been achieved under Aliyev’s leadership.

Aliyev noted that regional peace would enhance connectivity and development between Pakistan and Central Asia. The two leaders noted the positive trajectory in bilateral cooperation. Referring to recent meetings in Lachin and Khankendi, Sharif reiterated his invitation to Aliyev to pay an official visit to Pakistan. They are also expected to meet during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Tianjin.
