Islamabad:Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the completion of production monitoring systems for sales tax purposes across all manufacturing sectors by the end of the year.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister, while chairing a meeting in Islamabad to review FBR reforms, praised the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) team for their efforts in identifying the gap between tax potential and actual tax collection. He highlighted the importance of effective production monitoring through cameras and commended businesses in the manufacturing sector that are voluntarily installing monitoring systems.
The meeting was informed that a tax monitoring system has been fully installed in the sugar, cement, tobacco, tiles, and fertilizer sectors. Work is underway to install the system in the textiles, packaged water, packaged juice, and packaged milk sectors, with equipment procurement for these sectors already completed. The monitoring systems across all these manufacturing sectors are expected to be fully operational by December 31.
Prime Minister Sharif also expressed appreciation for the audit report on the production monitoring system in the cement sector. He emphasized that businesses collecting taxes from consumers but pocketing the money should not receive any concessions.
