Press Freedom Day: Sharjeel presents aid cheques to journalist associations

On the eve of Press Freedom Day observed today, Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon presented aid cheques to journalist associations.

Mr Memon presented a cheque of Rs55 lakh to the leaders of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists, Karachi Union of Journalists, and Sukkur Union of Journalists.

The cheque of PFUJ was received by Lala Asad Pathan, while the cheque of KUJ was received by President Ijaz Ahmed and Aajiz Jamali. The cheque of the Sukkur Union of journalists was received by Javed Jatoi.

Additionally, a cheque of Rs2 crore was given to the Sindh Parliamentary Reporters Association by the Government of Sindh. The leaders of journalistic organizations expressed their gratitude to the minister.

A delegation of Malir journalists, led by President of Press Club Malir Hanif Soomro, met Sharjeel Inam Memon. Deputy Mayor of Karachi Salman Murad was also present at the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, Memon expressed his pride in the efforts made for journalists on Press Freedom Day. He highlighted that the Sindh government has provided a cheque of Rs2 crore to SPRA and Rs55 lakh to PFUJ, KUJ, and SUJ for the betterment of journalists.

He emphasized that the Sindh government was striving to uphold the rights of journalists in line with the vision of Shaheed Bibi, President Asif Ali Zardari, and Chairman Bilawal Bhutto.

He noted that on the occasion of the International Day of Journalists, the Sindh government had provided financial assistance to journalist associations by presenting cheques.

He emphasized that the Sindh government adhered to a policy of offering all possible cooperation to resolve journalists’ issues. The disbursement of aid cheques on the International Day of Journalists underscored the government’s commitment to these priorities.

On this occasion, Secretary of Information Nadeem-ur-Rehman Memon, Director Advertisement Muhammad Yousif Kabooro, Senior Journalist and PFUJ official Hassan Abbas, and others were also present.
