President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari discussed the severe flood situation in Punjab with Governor Sardar Saleem Haider on Wednesday.

Governor Haider updated the president on the difficulties encountered by flood-stricken communities, especially in isolated regions. He outlined ongoing relief work, highlighting the Pakistan Red Crescent Society”s expanded operations across Punjab, including Lahore, Hafizabad, Kasur, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Narowal, and Mandi Bahauddin. Relief shelters are operational, and a water purification facility is being built in Kartarpur to ensure potable water for residents.

The Governor emphasized that officials and aid workers are directly engaging with affected families, reassuring them of government support.

President Zardari commended these actions and reaffirmed the nation”s commitment to those impacted by the disaster. ‘This is a humanitarian crisis requiring unity and swift action,’ the President declared.

He emphasized the unprecedented challenges Pakistan confronts due to the changing climate. ‘Overflowing waterways and untimely precipitation have created an impending danger of food shortages across the area,’ President Zardari observed. He noted that despite Pakistan”s negligible contribution to the global climate emergency, ‘our country continues to bear a substantial burden.’

Appealing for global cooperation, the President called upon the international community to support Pakistan in mitigating the destructive consequences of climate change.
