President calls for enhancing partnership with WHO to overcome health challenges

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi has called for further enhancing partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) to overcome various health challenges being faced by the country.

He expressed these views while talking to outgoing Country WHO Director Dr Palitha Mahipala, who called on him, here in Islamabad on Thursday.

The President appreciated the role of WHO in strengthening Pakistan’s primary healthcare system, besides providing support to various government initiatives.

He emphasised the need for creating awareness about the importance of mental health and early counselling at the household level. He said concerted efforts are needed to ensure rights of the people with disability.

The President appreciated the role and commitment of Dr Palitha Mahipala for strengthening the health sector of Pakistan and wished him success for his future endeavours.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Palitha Mahipala lauded the commendable role played by the President and the First Lady in raising awareness about various health issues, including Breast Cancer, Mental Health and the rights of Persons with Disabilities.
