The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) staged a protest rally in Shikarpur on Tuesday, voicing strong opposition to the construction of additional canals on the Indus River.
Led by Provincial Advisor Mir Babul Khan Bhayo, former Speaker Agha Siraj Khan Durrani, MNA Shaharyar Khan Mahar, MPA Muhammad Arif Khan Mahar, and District Chairman Sardarzada Zulfqar Khan Kamariyo, the rally drew hundreds of participants. The procession began from Bhayo House and marched through various parts of the city before reaching the Shikarpur Press Club.
Holding placards, banners, and party flags, protestors chanted slogans rejecting the proposed canal project. PPP leaders called the construction illegal and warned it would severely impact Sindh’s share of water resources. They demanded the immediate cancellation of the canal scheme.
The protest saw wide participation from PPP workers, local government representatives, union council members, town committee officials, and women’s wing members from across Shikarpur district, including the talukas of Garhi Yasin, Khanpur, Lakhi, and Shikarpur.
Chants of *”Indus River Canals Rejected”* and *”Jeay Bhutto”* echoed throughout the city as the rally concluded at the press club. The demonstration highlighted a united front by PPP leadership and supporters against what they view as a threat to Sindh’s water rights.
