Poliovirus confirmed in Hyderabad, Chaman, Quetta

Poliovirus has been confirmed in Hyderabad, Chaman and Quetta, according to a report on Wednesday.

As per details, the National Institute of Health (NIH), Islamabad has confirmed polio virus in environmental samples of three districts of the country Hyderabad, Chaman and Quetta.

These three districts were also previously infected. Moreover, the number of polio-positive samples has increased to more than 120 this year. Polio virus has been detected in sewage samples taken from three previously infected districts.

So far this year, the virus has been found in the sewage samples of 38 districts.

The sub-national anti-polio campaign conducted in two phases from April 29 to May 6 has failed to achieve the set target, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

According to details, the sub-polio campaign was scheduled in specific 91 districts of the country and the target was to vaccinate more than 2.44 million children.

However, during the campaign, 2.39 million children received the polio vaccine while 5 lac and 22526 children were deprived of the vaccine.

During the campaign, 82731 children in Punjab, 82391 children in Sindh, 3 lac and 71180 children in KPK, and 4907 children in Balochistan were deprived of vaccine.
