MIANWALI: Only 13 days after militants had attacked Kundal police check post in the mountainous area near Chashma in Mianwali district, the check post again came under attack on Friday, police said.

However, the police personnel manning the check post, who were fully alert, opened fire at the attackers, forcing them to flee.

In yet another attack in the same area, militants opened fire at the SHO Isa Khel police station and Elite Force personnel near Kundal interchange. Fortunately, no life was lost in the incident. Only a tyre of one of the cars burst.

Soon after the incident, DPO Matiullah, along with a heavy police contingent, reached the area. He patted on the back of police personnel for foiling the attack by militants.

A police head constable had embraced martyrdom, while two militants were killed in an attack by around 12 to 15 militants at the same check post in the wee hours of October 1, 2023.

The police had said that more than a dozen assailants attacked the Kundal check post at around midnight. As a result, Head Constable Haroon Rashid Khan was martyred on the spot. The police retaliated and killed two militants, who were later identified as Zubair Nawaz and Muhammad Khan.
