PMD predicts cold weather with fog and frost

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) today predicted cold and dry weather across most parts of the country over the next 24 hours with hilly areas expected to experience very cold conditions, while frost is likely in some upper regions during the morning.

According to the PMD report, moderate to dense fog is expected to persist in plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper and central Sindh during the morning and nighttime hours.

In its report, the PMD shared details of the past 24 hours, stating that cold and dry weather prevailed across most regions, while hilly areas experienced very cold conditions. Light rain and snowfall occurred in parts of Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir. Dense patches of fog affected visibility in several districts of Punjab and upper Sindh.

Rainfall was recorded in Rawalakot, Kashmir, and Skardu, Gilgit-Baltistan, with both areas receiving 1 mm of precipitation. The lowest minimum temperatures recorded included Leh at -12°C, Skardu at -11°C, and Gupis at -10°C.

Other notable low temperatures were Gilgit at -8°C, Astore and Kalat at -6°C, and Quetta and Bagrote at -5°C. Dir, Kalam, Ziarat, and Pashin all reported temperatures of -4°C.

The PMD advised travelers in fog-affected areas to exercise caution due to reduced visibility. Additionally, residents in hilly regions were urged to prepare for extremely cold conditions.
