Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday delivered a resolute assurance to Pakistan’s minority communities, declaring that the government will not permit injustice against them under any circumstances.

Addressing attendees at a Christmas celebration ceremony held in the capital, the premier pledged the state’s full support for the progress and prosperity of all minority groups.

Mr Sharif reiterated his resolve to stand in solidarity with minorities for the safeguarding of their entitlements, stating, “this country belongs to all of us and we all have equal rights in it.”

He emphasised that the Constitution of Pakistan places great stress on protecting the rights of all non-Muslim citizens, including Christians, Sikhs, Hindus, and Parsis.

Referencing the historic pronouncements of the nation”s founder, Shehbaz Sharif recalled that Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah had unequivocally championed religious freedom, affirming that all citizens were free to go to their respective mosques, temples, Churches, and Gurdwaras. He noted that this principle is an essential feature of the national constitution.

The Prime Minister also highlighted that the core principles of Islam impart teachings of love, peace, equality, justice, and brotherhood, noting the Holy Prophet”s (SAWW) message was to treat others with affection and avoid causing harm.
