Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif today highlighted that recent regional hostilities have derailed a delicate diplomatic process, undermining critical efforts to foster dialogue and de-escalation at a time of heightened tension.
During a telephonic conversation today with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman, the Prime Minister underscored the urgent necessity of preventing any further regional flare-up and creating an opportunity for the resumption of diplomatic initiatives.
The two leaders discussed the prevailing regional situation, which has been aggravated by Israel”s attack on Iran and the subsequent hostilities that have endangered the peace and security of the entire area.
Mr Sharif pointed out that the escalation occurred precisely when diplomatic efforts, facilitated by Oman, were underway to reduce tensions between the United States and Iran.
He expressed that the attacks have not only disrupted the sensitive diplomatic proceedings but have also weakened broader attempts to promote constructive dialogue in the region.
The Prime Minister conveyed his profound appreciation for Oman”s mediatory role, commending Muscat”s constructive work in facilitating talks and building trust among regional and international stakeholders.
He acknowledged that Oman”s balanced and forward-looking diplomacy serves as a significant stabilising force in the region.
Both leaders concurred on the importance of remaining in close contact and continuing their support for diplomatic initiatives aimed at restoring calm and securing lasting regional stability.
