Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif today ordered the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), rescue organizations, and local governments to maintain high vigilance for emergencies stemming from the ongoing rainfall. The Prime Minister’s Office stated that Sharif mandated immediate preventative actions to address possible inundation near the Indus River and other water bodies.

He also instructed the NDMA to enhance cooperation with Provincial Disaster Management Authorities for a cohesive and efficient response. The NDMA was further directed to bolster its close partnership with provincial administrations and all pertinent bodies. Stressing public awareness, the premier called on all provincial administrations to sustain comprehensive informational drives to maintain public preparedness.

Sharif advised the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority to provide citizens with continuous, factual updates using all channels. He mentioned that Tarbela Dam spillway operations could elevate the flood risk in downstream areas along the Indus.

The Prime Minister instructed the National Emergency Operation Center to pinpoint and publicly declare, via media outlets, at-risk locations, classified by flood threat level, enabling prompt warnings. He directed the NDMA to guarantee the readiness of all provincial administrations to handle any developing crisis.
