Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif today inaugurated the Seed Potato Production and Processing Complex, aimed at enhancing local production of potato seed through aeroponics.
The initiative at the National Agricultural Research Centre is poised to generate high-quality potato seed, reducing dependence on imports and conserving foreign exchange reserves.
During the event, the Prime Minister highlighted agriculture’s significance, noting that 65% of Pakistan’s population is linked to farming. He emphasized the potential of Pakistani farmers if provided with accessible quality seed, fertilizer, and pesticides.
Sharif advocated for domestic production of agricultural machinery to reduce reliance on imports and suggested enhancing yields in other crops like cooking oil seeds, sugar, and cotton to cut down on import expenses.
He acknowledged the Republic of Korea’s cooperation in establishing the complex and reiterated the importance of local manufacturing to bolster the agricultural sector. The Prime Minister’s comments underscored a broader vision for self-reliance in agriculture to support Pakistan’s economy.
