Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif today instructed federal and provincial governments to ensure the availability of essential food items at affordable rates during Ramazan.

Chairing a meeting in Lahore on sugar supply and price control, he directed authorities to formulate a strategy to regulate prices effectively. The Prime Minister emphasized strict measures against smuggling and hoarding of sugar.

He noted that the government’s recent crackdown on sugar smuggling had yielded positive results. Ensuring the availability of sugar and other food items at reasonable prices remains a top priority, he stressed.

The meeting received a detailed briefing on sugar production and was informed that the country has sufficient stock. Officials highlighted that fair price shops have been set up at the provincial level to facilitate the public.

Provincial chief secretaries assured that strict action would be taken against hoarders, while district administrations would remain vigilant to prevent any artificial shortages.
