PM assures IHC of all-out efforts for recovery of missing persons

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday assured the Islamabad High Court (IHC) that all-out efforts will be made for the recovery of missing persons and no lame excuse will be given in this regard.

He told the court that he cannot say that all of the missing persons will be recovered, however, he will leave no stone unturned in this regard. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appeared before the IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah on notice during the hearing of identical petitions seeking recovery of six missing persons, including journalist Mudassar Mahmood Naro.

On last hearing of the missing persons case, Chief Justice Minallah had directed the premier to ensure that the missing persons, whose cases were being heard in the IHC, were produced before the court on September 9 and warned that the failure to do so would require the premier to appear in person on the said date and give an explanation.

The Chief Justice Athar Minallah noted that the issue of missing persons was a big one, however the response from the state was not how it should be. The Prime Minister Shehbaz stated that the issue of missing persons will be resolved with sincerity. The Prime Minister said a committee on missing persons has already held six meetings, assuring that he will oversee its proceedings. He said he feels the pain of the families of missing persons.
