Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif today pledged to ensure maximum relief for the public by providing food items at affordable prices during Ramazan.
During a review meeting in Islamabad, Sharif commended the committee and Islamabad administration for controlling food prices and maintaining the availability of essential items at reduced rates. He instructed authorities to punish profiteers and protect innocent individuals from being wrongfully targeted.
The Prime Minister urged public representatives and federal ministers to visit Ramadan bazaars and facilitation stalls to oversee the provision of affordable essentials. Continuous monitoring of the price control system was emphasized to ensure consistent public relief.
The meeting revealed that Islamabad has established 16 facilitation stalls, five Ramazan bazaars, and 18 fair price shops. These outlets offer ghee, eggs, lentils, sugar, chicken, and other food items below market prices. Departmental stores have also set up DC counters to provide 12 essential items at discounted rates.
Since Ramadan’s start, 4,915 inspections have occurred, resulting in 785 arrests and 728,000 rupees in fines against profiteers. An online app is being utilized to monitor price magistrates’ performance. Additionally, under Bait-ul-Mal, Iftar facilities are offered to deserving individuals at eight locations in Islamabad.
