ISLAMABAD: A petition was filed Wednesday in the Supreme Court (SC) for the restoration of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) assemblies.

Pakistan Awami League Chairman Nasir Mehmood filed the petition which demanded that the assemblies of Punjab and KP be restored. “If it is necessary to hold elections according to the Constitution, Rs21 billion should be taken from Imran Khan,” it remarked.

The petition asserted that the assemblies of Punjab and KP had been dissolved illegally. “Imran Khan gave a statement that the assemblies were dissolved at the behest of General (r) Bajwa,” it said and added that the assemblies could be dissolved at the behest of an unrelated person.

It was also stated in the petition that the economic situation of the country was not suitable for elections. “The people of Punjab and KP elected their representatives for five years. If the elections are to be held anyway, Imran Khan should pay the expenses of the elections himself,” it pointed out.

The president, federal government, prime minister and the National Assembly speaker had been made parties in the petition. The election commission, Imran Khan, parties of the coalition government and others had also been made respondents in the petition.
