After more than twenty years of financial turbulence, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has reported an operating profit of 9.3 billion rupees and a net profit of 26.2 billion rupees. This significant achievement caught the attention of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who expressed his satisfaction with the airline’s financial turnaround.

Prime Minister Sharif took to his X handle to highlight the milestone, describing it as a major turnaround for the national carrier. His post also acknowledged the efforts of Defence Minister Khawaja Asif and the aviation team in steering PIA towards profitability.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, also via his X handle, attributed the success to the government’s rigorous steps and comprehensive reforms.

He mentioned the measures taken such as cost and workforce rationalization, routes optimization, and financial discipline that have set PIA on a path to capitalize further on its financial performance through a planned privatization process.
